Location

The International Conference on Brain Energy Metabolism (ICBEM) will be hosted by the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (www.epfl.ch).  Lausanne is beautifully located on the north shore of Lake Geneva (le lac Léman), 61 km from Geneva, looking onto the Swiss Alps. It is a medium size town with a total population of around 300,000 and is the capital of the Canton of Vaud, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland.

Transportation from Geneva Airport to Lausanne by train: http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm   By far the easiest, cheapest and least stressful way to get to your hotel in Lausanne after getting off the plane.  The train can be taken directly from the airport. Click on to the web site "sbb.ch" .  To find when a train leaves for Lausanne, type in Geneva airport (from) and Lausanne CFF (to) and your time of arrival in Lausanne.  

How to get to the EPFL

The nearest airport from Lausanne is in Geneva (Cointrin Airport) in the neighboring canton. When you arrive at the Cointrin Airport take the direct train for Lausanne (55 min, cost is app. 30 CHF).  Zürich airport (Kloten) is 2H30 hours from Lausanne.  At the Lausanne train station take bus number 1 to the stop "Saint François" , then the TSOL (small train on ground level) until you reach the EPFL stop, corresponding to the spot marked "campus" on the map provided below.  You can alternatively take the train from Lausanne to Renens and from there the TSOL to the EPFL.

Cross the street and follow the small path leading to "avenue Piccard" between buildings GR and PO.  Follow indicators and signs leading to building CO2 (via building CM, top level) on the EPFL campus.  

Access to building CO2 (the conference venue) is shorter by taking the foot path between buildings BP and BM (see ICBEM flyer also for printout) after getting off of the surface metro at the EPFL stop.

Euros can be exchanged to CHF; larger stores will even accept euros.

Electricity : 220 volts, 50 Hz

Pharmacy  :  this is equivalent to an American drugstore

Prices listed on store merchandize include taxes already.

Hotels

All participants, with the exception of invited speakers and chairpersons, are expected to make their own hotel reservations directly with the hotel.  Please click on "Hotel Information.pdf" below.  For those reserving rooms, please remember to mention that you are attending the ICBEM conference. 

20 rooms are available at Movenpick Hotel until June 30th for ICBEM conference participants;

10 single and 10 double rooms are available at  Hotel Victoria until June 30th for ICBEM conference participants.

Double rooms correspond to one room having 2 beds.  So, a 180 CHF double room will cost each person 90 CHF.

The hotel prices indicated cover a buffet breakfast, service charge, taxes and TVA (taxes are 7.6%).  TVA is total value added tax.

If more than one rate is indicated, the hotel offers different levels of rooms (e.g., air conditioning - please check with the hotel for further information).
