Greeting and invitation
Dear Colleagues and Friends, On behalf of the scientific and local committees, we would like to invite you to the 7th International Conference on Brain Energy Metabolism. This meeting will be held at the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland on August 15-18, 2006. The overall goal of this meeting is to bring together about 100 junior and senior scientists from the international community for a 3-day meeting to discuss neuron-glial interactions from the point of view of molecular, cellular, metabolic processes related to nutrition, signaling, imaging functional activities with different technical modalities, modeling physiological processes, and understanding diseases linked to energy metabolism. The program includes invited speakers, poster sessions, student/fellow presentations, interactivie discussion sessions, and free time for informal discussions with colleagues. In keeping with the meeting theme on integrating molecular, cellular and metabolic aspects of neuron-glial interactions in brain, the upcoming meeting will include sessions on regulation of glucose-glycogen metabolism, imaging the cellular redox potential in vivo, mitochondrial roles in excitotoxicity and disease, novel aspects of glutamate transmission and homeostasis, metabolic control analysis and metabolomics, and several student/postdoc data blitzes from submitted abstracts. The upcoming meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland will continue the tradition of presenting and discussing the latest advances in this fast moving, clinically relevant field in a wonderful location, with a relaxed, collegial atmosphere. Women, minorities, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to participate in the Brain Energy Metabolism meeting. Any participants who have special needs are requested to make their requirements known to the organizers on the application materials as soon as possible so that every effort can be made to address these needs. In addition, scientists from any discipline who have an interest in the topics in the meeting program are also encouraged to attend so that the scientific discussions and interactions will be broadly inclusive of interests within, among, and outside of the topics of the meeting. We look forward to seeing you next August in Lausanne and thank you in advance for participating and contributing to the success of the event by presenting your scientific contributions. |
