Joël Rossier

English: Joël Rossier has a BSc/MSc in Communication Systems from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) obtained in 2004. He did his master thesis at the Logic Systems Laboratory (LSL) on a new type of cellular automaton. With this latter, he realized an emulation of plants growth, a distributed chess game and a version of the von Neumann Universal Constructor adding to him a second layer that permits any structure to replicate itself. He joined the LSL-CARG in may 2004 to begin a PhD thesis. He is currently working on the hardware application of bio-inspired concepts, particularly on the development of self-replicating processors.

Français: Joël Rossier est titulaire d'un Master en Systèmes de Communication obtenu à l'Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) en 2004. Il a effectué son travail de diplôme au Laboratoire de Systèmes Logiques (LSL) sur un nouveau type d'automate cellulaire avec lequel il a réalisé une émulation d'un système de croissance de plantes, un jeu d'échec distribué ainsi qu'une version du Constructeur Universel de von Neumann en lui adjoignant un deuxième niveau permettant l'auto-réplication d'une structure quelconque. Il a rejoint le LSL-CARG au mois de mai 2004 pour réaliser sa thèse de doctorat. Il travaille actuellement sur l'application au matériel de concepts inspirés du vivant et plus particulièrement sur le développement de processeurs auto-réplicateurs.
